About Dr Nigel Spencer
Nigel Spencer is Professor of Education Innovation and Professional Practice at Queen Mary University of London, where he co-created the innovative Law in Practice Program. He is also Director of the University’s Hub for Professional Practice which works to impact the future of practice through research-informed lifelong education.
Previously, Nigel led global Learning & Development functions in two international law firms from 2004-17 and co-chaired the UK’s Legal Sector Professional Development network for many years.
In 2017, he moved to Saïd Business School, University of Oxford where he is an Associate Fellow. At Oxford he designed and led Executive Education programmes for senior leaders and wrote an award-winning White Paper series about the strategic use of L&D to create competitive advantage.
Nigel’s research focuses on a broad range of areas related to innovation in leadership development in the legal sector, and professional services more broadly, future models of education and lifelong learning.
His areas of interest include leadership and client relationships, uses of technology and ‘nudge’ methodologies to create behavioural change, and the impact of embedding coaching in leadership development programmes.
Nigel is also a member of Oxford University’s Saïd Business School Coaching Community, coaching on the Saïd Business School’s MBA and executive development programmes.
